Research- Questionnaire Through Social Media
I took to social media to find out what the public would like to see on my magazine or how they would want the magazine to be set out. I asked simple questions which would be effective in the creation process of my magazine. For example I asked what they would want to see and how many artists would they like the magazine to focus on. As we see clearly from the image above the main aspect the public would like to recieve from my magazine is news on albums, this is now much clearer for me and now I can implement it into the final cut of my magazine.
I also asked questions such as what type of props/setting would you expect to find in this type of magazine, this will help me with the photography process as it will give me a lead on where to take m photos and what to accessorise my model with to keep the overall ethos.

· Conventions:
Bold masthead, Cover star credit, anchorage text, a large image of the

Here is a contents page I have took from NME, this is the type of contents page I want to recreate for my magazine as I believe it would create a very realistic approach. I like the band index on the left hand side however I believe it would be better to have a top tracks list. The reason being it would give the audience reading the magazine to have a wider mind set to the music surounding the indie genre. I also like how there is a mini story about the main image shown here. The unique shapes also give a good effect which I will have to incorporate into my magazine to emphasise where something is that the audience may like to read just like the large red one in the bottom right hand corner.

Drafting and Planning:Peer Assessment of Remake Remodel Task
Recently, I have completed a Remake-Remodel Task. This allowed me to think of the codes and conventions of a magazine and put them into practice. I recreated an NME magazine as shown here:
http://joshvileasmedia.blogspot.com/2015/12/remodel-task.html
In class I received feedback from my peer as shown below:
What Went Well:
-The coverline was well presented on the left hand side and fit in with the magazine well.
-The masthead was clearly visible and two big which didn't take away from the coverstar.
-The quote from from the coverstar was funny as it created irony from Miley Cyrus. Who is known in the modern era for challenging the codes of conventions of daytime tv by not wearing that much clothing.
Even Better If:
-Barcode was bit to big, this could be deceived as me trying to make up space and show lack of understanding of the codes and conventions of magazine features.
-I believe there could of been more added for example a pug and a puff.
This feedback will allow me to develop a fine understanding of the codes and conventions of a magazine to incorporate into my actual magazine.

Research into Similar Products: Double Page Spread Layout
Here we see a double page spread from Q magazine this style of the doube page spread is the exact style i want to achieve for my overall piece. One thing I like about this magazine is how elegant it is layed out sort of like a newspaper this gives a contrast for the target audience. However we could see this in another way by saying the contrast creates contraversy which actually complies with the indie target audience. The L i believe is a bold statement as it is the first letter of the name of the coverstar shown on the left hand side, this i believe states that Lady Gaga is more important then the article meaning she is above herself giving the utmost importance. I believe capturing your coverstars importance is important in a magazine because it draws peoples attention. Especially fans of Lady Gaga

Drafting and Planning: Photography
I have chose these two pictures as I am trying to decide on what theme my photography should have. With the first photo I believe it would conform to the indie lifestyle with the coffee house giving it a hipster feel however I really like the coverstar stood infront of a solid colour as it adds a sense of importance instead of being washed out by other objects around them. However blue would not be my colour of choice as the I believe a warm yellow would conform to my overall plan of the colour scheme.

Drafting and Planning: Name of Magazine
I have used visual thesaurus which allows me to use one word and see what words come under it. For example I chose the word grime as it conforms with the stereotype of the style of magazine which im trying to put forward which is Indie rock, as we see here I like a few names such as colly as it is easier on the eye than grease or filth. I also like the word stain as it creates the image of the magazine being a stain on the audiences mind that you cant get rid of.

Remodel Task
As we see here i have chosen to remake a NME magazine for this magazine I took inspirtation from past magazines to incorporate the codes and conventions present in the normal NME Magazines. Throughout analysing this remodel i have came across many issues within it, for example some of the writing gets camoflagued with the cover star. I also believe the coverlines would look better on both sides. However I also like what I have done with the red. I believe the red black and white compliment this magazine very well as thats the main colour scheme throughout normal NME magazines. My favourite thing about this magazine is the background. I believe the neautral background is very effective as it highlights everything on the front cover.
Drafting- Layout of Contents page.
This is my second draft of my contents page. I believe this draft is more likely to have a place in my magazine because as I said in previous blogposts where I analysed colour schemes. I believe black and white is the colour theme I'm going to be doing this is because these two colours combined give one; a vintage and two; a easy manipulative background to work with. I believe this layout offers a chronlogical order for the audience to follow.
Research into similar products.
I decided to look into double page spread as I have mainly looked into front covers. I feel researching this will allow me to come up with a good double page for my final task. I feel the photography in this is very effective as there is a wide shot of the whole band and can portray them as a group. The house style is also effective as it is quite basic but is still an effective way of promoting the magazine as it is recognisable to their target audience and fits in with the actual logo of the magazine. The use of having kings of Leon as the biggest text on the double page is effective as it allows the reader to immediately recognise what the actual magazine double page is talking about and draws in the reader.

Planning-colour scheme
I have believe a colour scheme can really be effective to portray a certain message that wants to be achieved by a magazine company. So far the only colour that has been popping out to be through my chosen research was Red, this is because of a rebellious and dangerous stance that indie rock has taken. Therefore I have chosen to stay clear of red and make my magazine a lot more unique, I am a huge fan of black and white therefore this is a huge contender for my overall colour scheme. This will connotate the dark and edges feeling of indie rock, I also believe it will add a vintage theme which is what I am looking for. I also belive blue would be a good option because of the coldness of indie culture.

Planning-Names
Through conducting my research into simalar magazines of the genre indie rock one thing has become apparent to me. This is the name of the magazine, magazines such as NME are famous for their catchy name and have even been featured in many tv shows based around that type of genre of music. The names of these magazine are very short and catchy which makes me want to do this as I am a strong believer in less is more effective than more. Some of the names I have came up with are:
Tut- this is because it resembles a rebellious student getting told off this follows the ethos of a magazine as it doesn't follow what society wants it's very individual.
Riddle- I have chose this name because I believe indie magazines have a very questionable theme which makes it confusing to follow the latest trends.
Reform- this also is linked in the rebellious nature because of the idea of prisoners being reformed.
I- just like q one letter can be all more effective therefore I chose I as I belive I can manipulate it to make it fit in with a theme which will later be chosen.

Research into Simular Products-Colour scheme
Colour scheme is effective on magazines as it is one of the first assets of the magazine that grabs the audience's attention, I believe Q have achieved this by the sanding out of the hot pink. This vibrant colour not only sands out but it attracts people by its warming tone. I believe the black and white creates a great contrast as the coverstars are holding flowers therefore this could portray the bright emotion behind the magazine. I believe it is useful to think about little things like that when doing my magazine as it would give my magazine character.

Planning- what to have In my magazine.
As we see here, these two magazines are from the same company however they're very different in their own way. this makes me wonder of if my magazine should be a cross between two type of sub genres within the one genre for example indie rock but with indie pop in it as well, this idea originated from seeing a NME magazine with Lana Del Ray and Mumford and sons as cover stars. This I believe is effective as indie rock has a huge market with different stars appealing to certain markets. This allows me to have diversity creating maximum popularity to my magazine.
